NYC Department of Small Business Services opened applications for the NYC Small Business Continuity Loan Fund. Businesses with fewer than 100 employees who have seen sales decreases of 25% or more are eligible to apply for loans of up to $75,000 to ensure business continuity. Congress passed and the President signed into law the legislative package known as the CARES Act. The relief package developed to respond to the economic calamity created by the COVID-19 pandemic promises to deliver $2 trillion in federal funds. When implemented, it will include $377 billion for small businesses, including loans to small businesses, which offer loan forgiveness for funds spent on payroll, rent, mortgage interest, and utilities. NYCEDC is seeking businesses with the ability to quickly source and/or make needed medical supplies (e.g. face shields, gowns, ventilators, masks, and other products as needed) to support the City’s COVID-19 response. Learn more and complete the info form here.
Suppliers or distributors with access to a stock of ready-made supplies to sell or donate (medical or otherwise) should visit nyc.gov/covidsuppliers. Companies or individuals looking to volunteer and/or donate funds, food, and goods to those in need should visit nyc.gov/donate.

I’m Leslie Brown, President of the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce. It is my pleasure to serve as chamber president, to have owned a business in Forest Hills and to be a life-long resident here. I understand what it is like to run your own company and I know what the challenges that being self-employed entails. My mother opened a children’s clothing store in the 1980’s selling unique often handmade clothing. The store turned into a second generation owned business when I became involved in the 1990’s. We sold our store in early 2004 and I am proud to say that today it is still a family run children’s store on Austin Street! Through the decades of being in business I watched generations grow and I really felt part of the families here. And I still do today.
The Forest Hills Chamber offers the opportunity to network with over 230 Forest Hills based business owners and to get to know the people living and working in our community. I think of our members as being part of the fabric of Forest Hills and what I call the 3 C’S: Commerce, Community & Culture. These free concerts bring in well over 1000 people to each concert. The Shop Forest Hills Fall Festival in September offers another chance to bring your business to the community and to again reach tens of thousands of people. But we’re not done yet! Join us at the Celebrate Winter festivity held on the Monday after Thanksgiving. This fun event draws hundreds of people and serves as a kick off to the holiday season.
